STAMFORD, Vt. - Lorane Margaret (Moir) Whitcomb, 88, of Main Road, Stamford, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at the Center for Extended Care at Amherst in Massachusetts.

She was born Feb. 27, 1926, in North Adams, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late James and Leona (Yarter) Moir. She attended schools in North Adams, and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1944. She also graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1948.

Mrs. Whitcomb taught in the mathematics department at Drury High School for 28 years retiring in 1990. She was a communicant of St. John Bosco Church in Stamford. She was a member of the North Adams Garden Club and was a past trustee of the Stamford Community Library.

Her husband Lewis Matthews Whitcomb whom she married Aug. 19, 1950, in St. Francis of Assisi Church in North Adams, died Dec. 20, 2012.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith A. Whitcomb and her wife Cheryl Sponburgh of Amherst, Massachusetts, and Mary Jane Whitcomb of Bernardston, Massachusetts, and two sons, J. Michael Whitcomb and his wife Lynda of Derwood, Maryland, and David A. Whitcomb and his wife Donna of Stamford. She was predeceased by a son John Whitcomb who died in infancy.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial to celebrate the life of Lorane Whitcomb will take place Monday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at St. John Bosco Church in Stamford. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams, Massachusetts.
