NORTHAMPTON - Theresa Charlebois, 89, of Northampton, passed away Sunday morning, July 20, 2014 at the Linda Manor Extended Care Facility in Leeds. Born in Northampton, Feb. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of the late John Sr. and Mary Jane (LeBeau) Charlebois.
She was educated in local schools and was a 1942 graduate of the former St. Michael's High School. Theresa worked at the former McCallum's Department store for several years before working in dining services at Smith College for 37 years where she had a loving and nurturing connection with the students.
She was the past union president for the SEIU Local 211 and was instrumental in getting the retirement system changed for employees at Smith College. She was a devoted communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church and the present St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish where as "Fifi Baguette" she performed in several parish Cabarets. She participated in many various church activities.
Her faith, her church, her family and friends were most important to her. She loved Look Park, table 58, which she called her summer retreat where she enjoyed poetry, writing and oil painting. Theresa is survived by her nieces, Lucile Charlebois of South Carolina, Denise Burger of Virginia, her nephew Donald Charlebois of Virginia, and her many dear friends. She was predeceased by her brothers Louis, John, and Roland Charlebois, her sister Sr. Jeanne Louise of the Presentation of Mary, and her nephew David Charlebois.
Theresa's funeral will be Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. from the Ahearn Funeral Home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 99 King St., Northampton at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Theresa's friends would like to thank the nurses and staff at Linda Manor, especially Forest View, for their loving and compassionate care of Theresa. Donations in Theresa's memory may be made to the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 3 Elm St. Northampton 01060 or to the Linda Manor Extended Care Facility, Activities Fund, 349 Haydenville Rd., Leeds 01063.
