EASTHAMPTON - Sandra Marie Buczala, 69, of Easthampton, died Saturday, July 26, 2014, in her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Jan. 26, 1945, in Holyoke, the daughter of the late Anthony and Stasia (Baldyga) Ziomek, she attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Easthampton High School with the class of 1962. She lived in Easthampton most of her life.
She married Thomas M. Buczala Oct. 5, 1963, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage together last year. While her husband served in the military during the Vietnam era, Sandra was employed by the Department of Defense from 1963 to 1965 in Texas. She retired in 2004 after 40 years as a claims representative with the Social Security Administration in Holyoke.
Sandra was a previous member of the Sacred Heart Church and now a member of Our Lady of the Valley Church. She was a member of the church's Rosary Sodality. In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Easthampton Historical Society and was a member of the Easthampton High School Homecoming Reunion Committee and its past treasurer.
Besides her husband, she leaves a son Thomas A. Buczala of Whittier, California; a brother Richard A. Ziomek of Easthampton; one niece; two nephews; two grandnephews; and several cousins.
The funeral will be Wednesday, July 30, at 9:15 a.m. in the Mitchell Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Valley Church with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, all of Easthampton. Visiting time will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Easthampton.
