EASTHAMPTON - Edward F. Weslowski, Sr., of Easthampton, passed away peacefully of old age Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at the Holyoke Soldiers' Home in Holyoke.

Ed was born Feb. 22, 1921, in Deerfield, to Konstanty and Catharina (Sulisz) Weslowski.

He was employed at Hampton Specialty Company in Easthampton, prior to entering the Army. He served in the 616th Port Company in World War II from 1942 to 1945 as a private, assigned as longshoreman and heavy equipment tractor driver and received an honorable discharge from Ft. Devens in December of 1945. While in the U.S. Army he served in New Guinea and Luzon receiving the Good Conduct medal, World War II Victory medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal and Philippine Liberation ribbon with bronze service stars.

After the war, he was employed by Stanley Home Products for 37 years, where he began as a mail clerk and retired from the maintenance pipe shop in 1983. He took great pride in his work and being a perfectionist at what he did, upon his retirement he was given a shadow box with a pipe and a level, saying "Ed, is it level yet".

He was married to the former Gloria Gagne in 1947 and she predeceased him in 1992.

He enjoyed being outdoors at home, where over the years gardened and raised a wide variety of small animals and birds, most noted for breeding and raising fancy pigeons and doves that he would show, sell and trade. He was a member of the American Dove Association.

Ed was an extremely hard worker and will be remembered as a quiet, gentle man who looked much younger than his age.

He is survived by daughter Patricia "Patty" Wood and her husband Gary of Westhampton, son Edward F. Weslowski, Jr., of Southampton, and another daughter Irene Brooks of San Diego, California. He also leaves his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Shelly King and her husband Douglas and their boys Trevor and Hunter, Shawn Wood and his wife Lynne and their boys Dylan and Brody, Patrick Hogan and his daughter Ella, and Edward "Ted" Weslowski, III. He also leaves a brother Walter of Vernon, Florida; a sister Helen of Easthampton; brothers-in-law Daniel Gagne of Chicopee, and Louis Gagne of West Springfield; sister-in-law Marian Gagne of Easthampton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sisters Jenny and Sophie.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff on Four East for their care and support during his two year stay and to Hospice of Western Mass. as well during the past few months.
