ASHFIELD - On Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, Evelyn A. (Maynard) Roberts, 91, of 321 Norton Hill Road, Ashfield, passed through heavens gate to join her beloved ones who went before her. She was born in West Hawley on Feb. 10, 1923, the daughter of Arthur and Iva (Tilton) Maynard.
She married Lester J. Roberts on Aug. 15, 1946. They shared 49 years of wedded bliss together. He predeceased her in January 1996. Her dear friend and companion Dick Kelly predeceased her in December 2012.
Evelyn's greatest pride and joy was her family. In her early years she enjoyed baking the best fruit pie. She had a great love for nature and enjoyed spending time in the woods in the fall picking partridge berries and making them into berry bowls which were given to all her family and friends. She took pride in maintaining her home and yard and could be found picking up sticks in the yard when she was no longer able to do other things until she was 90 years of age.
Survivors include 1 son Kenneth L. (Gail) Roberts of Ashfield; two daughters Janice (Roger) Howes also of Ashfield, Linda McCulloch of Gill; granddaughters Peggy (Tony) Zager of Gill, Sharon Taylor of Easthampton; grandsons Christopher (Queen) Newsome of Greenfield, Carl (Laurie) Newsome of Heartwellville, VT; 9 great-grandchildren Darren, Riley, Michael, Britney, Tyler, Amber, Christopher, Michelle and Kim. She leaves many nieces, nephews, friends and her beloved cat Sunshine.
She was a precious lady to anyone who truly took the time to know her and she will be solely missed by her family and friends.
A graveside service will be held Friday, Aug. 29, at 1 p.m. at Plain Cemetery in Ashfield. Rev. Kate Stevens, pastor of the First Congregational Church in Ashfield will officiate. There are no calling hours.
It is suggested donations be made to either the First Congregational Church, Main St., Ashfield, Ma 01330 or to the Highland Ambulance & EMS Inc., 56 Main St., Goshen, MA 01032.
