SOUTHAMPTON - Neil G. Malanson, 71, of Southampton died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

He was born in Holyoke, Jan. 16, 1943, the son of the late Louis and Amelia (Linko) Malanson. He attended schools in Southampton and Easthampton High School. He entered the Navy during the Vietnam era, serving for five years.
After returning to Southampton, he was employed by Sterling Radiators, then as a mason tender, retiring from O'Leary Co. of Southampton.
Neil enjoyed hunting, golfing and horsemanship and was a past president of Hampshire County Riding Club.
He is survived by two sons, Dale and Craig Malanson, both of Southampton; one sister, Jane Kyle of Florida; three grandchildren, Sarah, Ella and Tricia Malanson; two nephews, David and Bart Kyle; and his special companion, Candace Barber of Westfield.
His funeral with military honors will be Friday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. in the Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Easthampton, followed by burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in South Hadley. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Thursday, Aug. 28, from 4 to 8 p.m.
