JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Dorothy Raizis, 93, passed away Oct. 19, 2012, after a battle with Alzheimer's. Loving care by Sandra and Jay gave Miss Dottie a peaceful life for the last seven months. They restored the humor she so wished for on her journey to "the great sewing room in the sky".

Miss Dottie was born in Canada to Frances and John Warner and raised in Seattle, Wash., with her five sisters, all of whom predeceased her.

She was married to U.S. Navy Warrant Officer Peter Raizis. They had two children and moved to Northampton, Mass., where Peter was assigned as a Navy recruiter in his hometown.

After 20 years of military service, the family moved to Jacksonville in 1954. Peter was employed by the U.S. Civil Service at Jacksonville NAS until his retirement. Miss Dottie was employed in Bishop Kenny High School's cafeteria as the Lunch Cart Lady in the courtyard where she thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories with students.

Mr. Pete preceded her in death in June 1990. Alas, he never returned to Miss Dottie from his last voyage out to sea, where his remains were scattered.

The couple was preceded in death by their son in-law Gerald Marhefka and grandson Matthew Marhefka.

Survivors include a daughter, Lucy Marhefka; a son, Ronald Raizis; grandchildren, Michael and Mark Marhefka and Jennifer and Peter Raizis; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Rebecca and Benjamin Marhefka and Nathan, Aaron and Alexander Lee.

Their dual service will be held at Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Jacksonville on Dec. 4 at 10 a.m.
