NORTHAMPTON - Catherine Mary "Kay" Roy, 78, of 73 Blackberry Lane in Northampton, passed away peacefully Monday morning at Cooley Dickinson Hospital with her family at her side.

Kay was born July 29, 1934, the daughter of the late John F. and Frances P. (Hurley) Doyle.

She was raised in Lewiston and attended schools there. Kay graduated from Lewiston High School in 1952 and furthered her education with secretarial training in the textile industries in Maine and the insurance industry in Boston.

She was a secretary in the textiles field for many years until she met her future husband, Norman E. Roy. They were married on Dec. 26, 1955, and resided in Boston while Norm completed college. In 1967 they moved to Northampton and began their lives here, raising their family and meeting many wonderful lifelong friends.

In Kay's early years, she enjoyed her summer vacations ocean-side in Freeport, Maine, and later enjoyed many vacations with family and friends on the shore in Rhode Island.

One of Kay's greatest joys was the opportunity to stay home and raise her two daughters.

Kay was an avid sports fan, closely following the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics. She enjoyed skiing with her family at Snow Basin and also was a member of a women's bowling league. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Northampton and a member of the Blessed Virgin Sodality and a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, the Bridge Club and the Couples Bridge Club. Kay volunteered her time with the Northampton Senior Center, the Northampton High School Soccer cheerleader coach and with the American Cancer Society and many other community events.

Kay leaves her beloved husband of 57 years, Norman E. Roy, and her two daughters, Deborah Roy Donahue of Worcester and Rebecca Marie Cockfield and her husband Jeffrey of Danvers. Kay was very proud of her four grandchildren, Caitlin, Sean, Mark and Christopher, and loved spending time with them. She also leaves a brother, John F. Doyle of Maine, and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours for Kay will be Friday afternoon from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton. The family invites you to join them on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church to celebrate the Liturgy of Christian Burial for Kay. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary's Cemetery in Northampton.

Donations in Kay's memory may be made to VNA & Hospice of Cooley Dickinson, P.O Box 329, Northampton, MA 01061.

The Family would like to thank the ICU staff at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for the care and compassion they showed Kay and her family.
