AMHERST - Peter M. Kurz died of multiple myeloma in his home March 10, 2013.

Despite having his cancer diagnosed 13 years ago, Peter and his beloved wife Kate, had a full and productive life with each other and with their extended families.
Kate predeceased Peter on July 8, 2012.
Peter was born Nov. 1, 1937, in New York City, and was educated in public and private schools.
His undergraduate studies were at the University of Rochester and New York University, and he received a master's degree in literature from the University of Wisconsin.
Peter started his own republishing company, Zephyrus Press, where he published unusual scholarly books, including translations of spelunking books from the French. For many years he worked as manager of publishing systems at Fairchild Publishing, until his retirement.
Peter was a scholar, a musician, a computer expert, a bread-baker, a linguist, a world traveler and an accomplished photographer.
Peter and his wife Kate met as choral singers in New Jersey and continued enjoying music, especially choral singing, in many groups in New York, New Jersey and the Pioneer Valley.
Peter was a proud and admired step-father to Kate Troast, Anne Troast Hansen, Arthur Troast and Mary Troast Molina and their respective spouses Michael Rossen, Keith Hansen, Marianne Troast and Jose Molina. Peter was also a devoted and loved step-grandfather of 10 children, now grown. Peter is also survived by his sister, Susan Kurz Wasserman, his twin sister, Nancy Kurz Voynow and his brother-in-law, Irving Wasserman.
