NORTHAMPTON - Thomas J. Nolan died peacefully April 3, 2013, after a brief illness.

He was born June 17, 1953, was a lifelong resident of Northampton, and was the son of Patricia (Lucey) Nolan and the late Robert J. Nolan.

He was a graduate of the former St. Michael's High School and attended Westfield State College.

Tom spent 30 plus years working at various local businesses including Chardans, Chilson's and Optical Communication Services of New England where he was a senior technician in fiber optics. Most recently he was a loving caretaker for his mother.

Tom was a loyal and generous family member and friend and defined his life as such. He was always the first to offer help to all. He enjoyed sports, reading, and was a master of Sudoku and crossword puzzles. Tom loved the ocean and animals. He had a very special way with dogs. He was blessed with a great sense of humor.

Tom will be sadly missed by his mother Patricia; his brother Denny and his wife Arlene of Northampton; his sisters Maureen Musante and her husband Bill of Northampton, Roberta Niezgoda and her husband Fred of Holyoke and Christine Nolan of South Deerfield; numerous nieces and nephews; several aunts; an uncle; dozens of cousins; and many wonderful friends will also feel Tom's loss.

A memorial Mass for Tom will be Monday morning at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 99 King St., Northampton at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private.

Calling hours are Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Rd., Northampton.
