NORTHAMPTON - Paul Joseph Downey, 64, of 81 Conz St., died Friday, April 5, 2013, at his home.

He was born Oct. 29, 1948, the son of Peter and Lillian Dowd Downey and attended Pittsfield High School, graduating in 1966.

He served in the United States Air force from November 1966 to June 1970 with an honorable discharge as a sergeant. Paul was a veteran of the Vietnam war and was stationed at Tuy Hoa Air Force Base in Vietnam.

He was a member of St. Charles Church in Pittsfield. He loved to travel, visit relatives in Virginia, go to the beach and have a good fried clam dinner.

He is survived by his twin brother, Peter J. of Richmond, Va.; his older brother Jim and wife Linda Bromley Downey of Williamsburg, Va.; his nephews and nieces, Matthew J. of Arlington, Va., and Adam, McKenzie and Paige Downey of Richmond, Va.

The family would like to thank the VA Hospital of Northampton, Dana Farber Cancer Institute at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, and the Baystate Regional Hospital - D'Amour Center for Cancer for their care, support and kindness given to Paul.

His funeral services with military honors was held Wednesday, April 10, at Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
