Cova Spencer Gibson, age 88, passed away Friday February 14, 2014. She was born February 19, 1925 in Grayson County, Kentucky. She was one of 12 children of Ollie Ann Floyd and Lacy Hal Spencer Senior. Cova was the wife of the late Lowell Gibson. They were married for 69 years. She was the mother of four children: Maxwell Gibson, Jerry Gibson, Shelby Gibson and Dianna Gibson Poteet, 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. She grew up in Grayson County and was a member of the Little Flock Missionary Baptist Church on Millerstown Road. Cova Gibson was known for being a good wife, mother and grandmother.
Cova followed in her father's footsteps with a love of music. She loved to play the piano and sing. She was also known as a very good seamstress, sewing and mending her families clothing for many years.
Holiday family gatherings were always very important in the Gibson home. It was common to have 70-80 family members at their house on Christmas Eve. The family remembers that Cova shopped for Christmas gifts throughout the year and always made sure that none of their family was left out. She loved to cook for her family as well and you would always find a great feast during the holidays. She loved her family very much.
The holidays were not the only time that Cova took good care of her family. She was always kind hearted and would do without to make sure that her kids and grandkids always had what they needed. Again, she loved her family very much.
Cova was loved greatly by her husband, children, grandchildren, and friends. She came to know the savior at a very young age. Because of her salvation, we know that she is in a better place and will be waiting by the gates of Heaven to greet us.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Watson & Hunt Funeral Chapel in Leitchfield with Bro. Junior Bell officiating. Burial followed in the Little Flock Cemetery.
