Betty J. Burns

Betty J. Burns July 29, 1923 – April 22, 2013 Betty J. Burns passed away April 22, 2013, at Grand View Care Lodge in Grand Junction. She was 89. She was born July 29, 1923, in Rehoboth, New Mexico to Dr. Earnest Beernink and Gladys Dunbrook Beernink. Betty graduated from the University of Michigan in 1945 and in September of the same year she married Dorr H. Burns in Grand Haven, Michigan. She lived in Chicago, Illinois; Denver, Colorado and Ashland, Wisconsin before settling in Grand Junction in 1956. Betty was a member of the Presbyterian Church as well as many other organizations in Grand Junction. She was a life master in bridge and enjoyed traveling with friends and family. Preceded in death by her husband, she is survived by four children, James Burns of Sylvannia, Ohio; Christine Archer of Morrison, Colorado; Sharon Gorden of Colorado Springs, and John Burns of Huntsville, Alabama. In addition she is survived by six grandchildren, Heather Burns, Odenton, Maryland; Amy Draime, Northwood, Ohio; Samantha Gorden, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Megan Archer, Morrison, Colorado; Sabrina Gorden, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Krista Burns, Huntsville, Alabama, and three great-grandchildren, Kayla and Allen Powell and Myron Draime of Northwood, Ohio. She is also survived by three siblings, Beverly Balfour, Marysville, California, and Mary Rienstra, and John Beernink, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan. A memorial service will be held Monday, May 20, at 10:00 a.m. at Calahan-Edfast Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church of Clifton; Ghost Ranch, HC77 Box 11, Abiquiu, NM; or to the Dorr Burns Scholarship Fund at Colorado Mesa University.
