Juanita M. Raney

Juanita M. Raney March 21, 1921 – September 1, 2013 Juanita M. Raney was born March 21, 1921, to Elmer F. and Lela Fay ( Brees) Huitt in Weskan, Kansas. She died on September 1, 2013, at Family Health West in Fruita. She moved to Pierce, CO at the age of five and graduated from the Pierce High School in 1939. On June 28, 1941, Juanita married James Raney in Ozark, MO. He was in the Army and they lived in Missouri, California, and Colorado. They had two sons, James and Charles. When her husband was overseas during WWII and Korea, Juanita would live in Pierce, CO, with her parents and wait for her soldier to return. Upon his retirement from the military, they moved to Greeley, CO in 1961. Juanita worked for the Greeley School District as the Assistant Director of School Lunch program and was active in Eastern Star and Jobs Daughters. When they retired from civilian life they moved to Red Feather Lakes, CO. She was a member of the library board and instrumental in establishing Red Feather Lakes Public Library. Her husband passed away October, 1997, and she moved to Fruita, CO, to be near her son and daughter-in-law. Preceding her in death was husband, James; four brothers, Burl, Everett, Darrell, and Ray and grandson, Scott. Survivors are sons, James of San Francisco and Charles (Joyce) Grand Junction, CO; grandchildren, Dawn (Kevin) Randolph, KS; Dionne (Kevin) Greeley, CO; James (Chariese) Wiggins, CO; Sherrie (Edd) Loma, CO, and Lisa of Colorado Springs; ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephew. Services will be held September 21, 2013, 1:00 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, 2515 F Rd. In lieu, of flowers, donations may be made to Hope West Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 3090B North 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
