Nicholas J. Copeland, of Montrose, passed away on December 2, 2013, at the age of 71.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Judy; stepson, Scott Isferding; stepdaughter, Tracy Dabney (Bill); niece, Sarah Sloan (Bill); two grandsons, Brandon and Colton Dabney, and a grand-nephew, Alex Sloan. He is also survived by his sister, Tawana Vigil, and brother, Tom, and their respective families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Judy Copeland, and his brother, Jim.
Nick owned Montrose County Abstract and was very active in the local business community. He was a member of numerous community organizations. He advocated the importance of supporting local small businesses and was a loyal customer to many in the Montrose area. Nick was also a leader in his industry. He served as president of the Land Title Association of Colorado. He served on the Montrose Planning Commission. Nick was generous in his support of local initiatives and organizations.
Born in Montrose on September 20, 1942, Nick was raised in the Palisade area. He graduated from Palisade High School, where he played baseball and football. He graduated from Western State College in Gunnison with a Bachelors of Arts Degree.
Nick was a proud veteran. He served in the United States Army for six years and two days, including tours in Vietnam, Germany and several state-side postings. He loved his time in Germany and developed many lifelong interests and relationships from his short tour there.
Nick was an avid golfer, fisherman and history buff. He read voraciously and loved to travel. He was a dignified, generous man and an outstanding friend to many.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel, the service will conclude at the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations, in loving memory of Nick, may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado (HopeWest), P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, Colorado 81402.
It was special to Nick and his Family that he had many visits and support from his loved friends. It meant more than they can know.
