Ruby Lorraine Snider September 26, 1924 – March 16, 2013 Ruby Lorraine Snider passed away on March 16, 2013, at the Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was 88 years old. Ruby was born in Ajo, Arizona on September 26, 1924, to Mayo and Louisa Shakelford. On October 8, 1941, she married William "Bill" Henry Snider, who was the love of her life. Together they raised three children in Bisbee, Arizona, where she was the manager of the local Sears Catalogue Store. After their retirement, she and Bill moved to Colorado; first to Meeker, and then to Grand Junction, where they lived the rest of their lives. Bill preceded Ruby in death, passing away in 1996. Bill and Ruby were typical of their generation, having endured the Great Depression and World War II, during which Bill served in the military. Theirs were lives built on caring for others, working hard, giving more than they received, and striving to create a better life for their children and everyone around them. She had a love for animals and had many pets during her life. She spent most of her time outdoors and would often be seen walking on the road near their ranch near Bisbee, Arizona, followed by a menagerie of dogs, cats, ducks, and a horse. Recently, she enjoyed being outdoors and feeding the fish in the pond at her home in Whitewater, Colorado. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and was thrilled to become a great-great-grandmother. Her family was the light of her life. Ruby is also preceded in death by her parents; her oldest son, William Mayo Snider; grandson, Troy Snider; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Eileen Snider, and two sisters, Gertrude Guthrie, and Joyce Eastin. Ruby is survived by daughter, Ellen (Steve) Stringer of Whitewater; son, Tim (Rhonda) of Flagstaff, Arizona; sister, Jacque (Jim) Eastin of Prescott, Arizona; daughter-in-law, Judy Snider of Safford, Arizona, and grandchildren, Stacie (Bryan) Darnell and Scott (Megan) Stringer, both of Grand Junction, Colorado; Wendy (Justin) McClatchy of Morenci, Arizona; Jennifer (Erin) Snider-Kimrey of Hillsborough, North Carolina; Joshua (Katie) Snider of Tucson, Arizona; Travis (Heather) Snider of Phoenix, Arizona, and Kristol Hewlitt of Leadville, Colorado. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchilren as well as loving extended family. Services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., at Connection Church, 402 Grand Avenue, Grand Junction, Colorado, 81501. Donations in memory of Ruby may be sent to Hospice & Palliative Care, 3090B North 12th Street, Grand Junction, Colorado, or The Connection Church, and would be appreciated by the family.
