Thomas B. Wesnidge, Sr.
July 20, 1928 - Feruary 10, 2014
Thomas B. Wesnidge Sr., 85, of Grand Junction, CO passed away peacefully on Monday February 10, 2014, at HopeWest Care Center in Grand Junction, CO.
Thomas was born on July 20, 1928, in Oklahoma.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Jr. and wife, Rosemary Wesnidge of Fruita, CO; daughter, Linda and husband, Mike Kemp of Del Rio, TX; granddaughters, Rebecca Wesnidge of Denver, CO, and Melissa, husband, Daniel Carlson of Grand Junction, CO; sister, Yvonne Dees and her son, Paul "Jr" Dees in Hydro, OK; sister, Venita, husband, Lee Sturgeon of Boulder, CO, and sister, Colleen Johnson of State College, PA. His beautiful wife Irma, preceded him in death.
Thomas served his country as a US Navy
Seaman and while on leave he married Irma Steinly, one of the "prettiest girls in town". They moved to Colorado and Tom worked for Colorado Public Service as an electrical lineman for 30 years. He made many friends during his time with Public Service and was well respected as the "ol' man" who could climb any pole.
He and Irma built a lovely home on G Road and after his retirement in 1986, he spent most his spare time in the garden. He grew many vegetables but was well known for his delicious tomatoes. You would often find his granddaughters sitting at the tomato stand selling them during the summer. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching football. He was known to be a little ornery, always teasing and making jokes.
After Irma's death in 2008, Tom found solace in his daily trips to the VFW
for his morning coffee and poker games. He was very active up until his death and his family is very grateful that he was able to enjoy his independence until the end.
Per Thomas' request, he is to be cremated and there will be a small memorial for family and close friends at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February 15th, at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to HopeWest and Hospice or to a Veteran's organization of your choosing.
