Wanda J. Thompson

Wanda J. Thompson April 8, 1931 – November 9, 2012 Wanda J. (Newberry) Thompson of Grand Junction, CO, passed away peacefully Friday, November 9, with her family by her bedside at Family Health West in Fruita, CO, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born April 8, 1931, in Texas to Irvin and Lucille (Patterson) Newberry, Wanda graduated Montrose High School in 1948, and was married to Donald G. Thompson of Montrose in 1958, who preceded her in death. Wanda worked as a legal secretary in Montrose and secretary in the Student Center at Mesa State College. Along with her husband, she managed apartment complexes. She was an avid sports fan, enjoyed floral arranging, earned her airline pilot's license, and loved young and old alike. She was a past member of Beta Sigma Phi, Montrose Christian Church, and First Assembly of God in Grand Junction. She is survived by three sons, Tom N. Thompson and his wife, Cecilia of Grand Junction; Charles Raymond Thompson of Grand Junction; Timothy M. Thompson and his wife, Jean, of Escondido, CA, and two grandsons, Cameron and Jake. She is also survived by her two sisters, Gay Williams of Fruita, CO, and Sandra Long, of Paonia, CO, and many nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her sisters, Barbara Haynes of Montrose and Gloria Carkhuff of Pueblo, CO. Visiting hours are Thursday, November 15, from 4 - 8:00 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, Grand Junction, CO. Funeral service will be Friday, November 16, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Community Church, 16731 Woodgate Rd, Montrose, CO, followed by burial in Valley Lawn Cemetery, Montrose. The family would like to thank friends and staff at Grand View Apartments, Residence at Grand Mesa, Family Health West and Hospice for their kindness, compassion, and care during her difficult journey.
