Ruby Richardson Obituary

Ruby M. Richardson September 10, 1924 – November 11, 2011 Ruby Richardson of Clifton, Colorado passed away on November 11, 2011. She was 87 years old. Ruby was born on September 10, 1924 in Anthony, Kansas to Elmer and Vivian Smithhisler and graduated from Anthony High School. She later received her degree as a registered nurse from St. Francis School of Nursing in Billings, Montana. She married Jim Richardson on June 19, 1948 in Dinosaur (Artesia), Colorado. Jim and Ruby had five children. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and volunteering at the Veteran's Hospital in Grand Junction. Ruby was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where she was involved in the Alter and Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters. She also served as the Director of Nursing at Palisade Nursing Home for a number of years and various nursing home facilities in the Grand Junction area. She is survived by three sons, Mike (Mary Kay) Richardson of Montrose; Bob (Kathleen McGinley) Richardson of Grand Junction; Steve (Cindy) Richardson of Whitewater, and two daughters, Judy (Gary, deceased) Christopher of Clifton, and Kay (Earl) Fay of Grand Junction; 15 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. There are also five step-grandchildren, and 13 step-grandchildren. Her husband of 48 years preceded her in death, both parents; a sister, Leola (Tillman) Richards and two infant brothers. On Thursday, November 17th, a Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Ruby will be laid to rest with her husband at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 3090B North 12th, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
