Berta Adeline Albertson April 12, 1914 - October 6, 2008 Berta A. Albertson, 94, long time resident of Burns, Colorado, went to be with her Savior on October 6, 2008. She passed away at her home at Grand Villa in Grand Junction with her family and close caregivers by her bedside. She was born April 12, 1914, at Burns, Colorado, at home on the D Bar 7 Ranch on Derby Mesa. She was the seventh of nine children born to Bert and Nona Gates, early pioneers in the Burns area. She attended schools in both Burns and Grand Junction, and graduated from Eagle County High School in Gypsum in 1932. Berta married Orris G. Albertson on July 1, 1933, at the Gates Ranch on Derby Mesa. The two families lived a mile apart, and they had known each other all their lives. Together, Orris and Berta built a registered, commercial herd of Hereford cattle. They worked side-by-side building a unique high mountain cattle ranch that is still in operation today. Their granddaughter, Kendra and her family took over the ranch when Orris and Berta retired to Grand Junction in 1999. Their son, Dale was born on June 8, 1934, at home on Derby Mesa. Dale started riding on the front of his mother's saddle as an infant. He and his parents worked the Burn's ranches and continued to expand their land interests by buying a winter range ranch at DeBeque, Colorado, in 1966. Both Berta and Orris were active in the Colorado Cattlemen's Association, the Eagle County Cattlemen, and the Burns School Board along with other community and church groups. Berta's life was culminated in her love for God, her family, and her way of life. She lived a life of example to both friends and family. She was soft spoken and was loved by the people who cared for her during her time at Grand Villa. Berta is survived by her son, Dale and his wife, Donna of DeBeque, Colorado. She was blessed with five grandchildren, Vicki Stout of Clifton, Colorado; Scott and his wife, Pilar Albertson of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Kendra and husband, Keith Scott of the home ranch at Burns, Colorado; Aaron and his wife, Amy Largent of DeBeque, Colorado; and Amy and her husband, Paul Schutter of Alma, Kansas. Great grandchildren are Michael and Matthew Stout; David Albertson and Sasha Lavoie; Cherie Long and her husband, Trever; Christine Albertson; Kurtis and Kensie Scott; Jentry, Railey and Burke Largent; and Jakob, Lauren, Ryan and Samuel Schutter. She is also survived by her sister, Marie Albertson of Grand Junction, and her sister-in-law, Carrie Panter of Delta, Colorado. Orris, her beloved husband of 70 years, preceded her in death along with her parents and siblings, Frank, James, Albert, Lemley, Mary, Ruth, and Edith. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2008, at Martin Mortuary in Grand Junction with Pastor Bruce Dunsdon of the Burns Baptist Church and Pastor Jake Duran of Open Bible Fellowship in DeBeque officiating. Memorial contributions in memory of Berta may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P. O. Box 60307, Grand Junction, Colorado 81506. The Albertson family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Grand Villa for their thoughtfulness during her stay there.
