Duane L. "Dewey" Johnson May 1, 1936 – November 4, 2012 Duane L. "Dewey" Johnson, 76, died at his home in Crosby, Texas on November 4, 2012, after a battle with cancer. He was born to James L. and Matilda Closson Johnson in Cedaredge, Colorado. He graduated from Central High School in Fruitvale, Colorado with the class of 1954. He married Sandra K. Muhr on April 2, 1955, in Palisade, CO. Born to this union were Randall "Randy" Johnson of Eureka, NV; Terry Erickson of St. George, UT, and Kurt Johnson of Fruita, CO. Dewey and Sandy were divorced in 1982, after 27 years of marriage. Dewey then married Edna Mae Oney on December 22, 1984, in Grants, NM. Dewey worked for 24 years with Union Carbide Corporation in the Rifle, Colorado, Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Gas Hills, Wyoming Plant operations. He then joined Gulf Minerals in Grants, NM. Dewey was active in his church and served as a Deacon, Trustee, and on the Board of the Crosby Methodist Church in Crosby, TX. He served as an Elder, and with his first wife, Sandy, served as Youth Group leaders of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Hot Springs, AR. He served in some capacity in the new Home Owners of Newport Boards for many years. He was at his best when he was engaged in bettering the environment in which he lived. We will never know the full boundaries of the charity he spread, nor the good works and deeds that he did. That's how he liked it. Dewey enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, golf, and beautifying everything that he could, with his great skills and problem solving. He will be greatly missed by his family and beloved friends. Dewey is survived by his wife, Edna Johnson; his former wife, Sandra Johnson of Fruita, CO; his children, Randall (Lu) Johnson of Eureka, NV; Terry (Verd) Erickson of St. George, UT, and Kurt Johnson of Fruita, CO; his brothers, Donald (Barbara) Johnson of Hayden, CO; LeeRoy (Jackie) Johnson of Fruita, CO; his sister, Loretta Brandt of Farmington, NM; his step-daughters, Sandy Jones of La Porte, TX, and Terri Holder of Pasadena, TX; 12 loving grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and many good and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Clevenger; brothers, Dalton Johnson and Arnold Johnson, and daughter-in-law, Pamela Sims Johnson, "Daddy, we could not have asked for a better Father, you taught us by example. You taught us at an early age how to work hard and how to play well with others. You taught us to mean what you say and say what you mean, with diplomacy. You taught us that Family, God, and Country are important... To serve others - that sometimes we needed to "give when it seemed like we had nothing to give". You taught us the importance of good, solid lifelong friends, and the joy that comes from sports and nature. You taught us to live by the Golden Rule and the Ten Commandments. You taught your sons how to become great men and loving husbands, and your daughter to not settle for less than finding the same. You are well loved by your children, and your grandchildren love you deeply. We only wish we would have had more time.,...".
