Fred "Gardner" Clymer July 13, 1925 - June 30, 2013 Our father, our Grampy, and our good friend went to be with his Lord and join the love of his life, Fran, after a short illness at St. Mary's Hospital. Gardner was born on July 13, 1925, in Grand Junction, Colorado, the seventh child of Mabelle G. and Fred C. Clymer. He grew up in the family business farming, ranching and dairying in Grand Junction, on Pinyon Mesa, and in Molina. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in1943 and served in the U. S. Navy 1945/1946. He returned home to work for Clymer's Rose Glen Dairy. In October, 1946, he married Frances Hoffman. They lived in Grand Junction, and brought two children into the world, F. Channing and Georgia Lynn. The family moved to Palisade in 1952, with Gardner working for Hoffman's Garage, a small Ford dealership, garage, and Texaco gas station, later to become Hoffman Motors, Inc, a partnership with his father-in-law. In 1960, they opened Mt. Garfield Auto Parts to compliment the dealership. The businesses were sold in 1986, and Gardner became a salesman for Western Slope Ford. Gardner was a life-long member of Palisade Lions Club beginning in 1957, and of Palisade Masonic Lodge No. 125 A.F. & A.M. beginning in 1958, becoming a Shriner in 1965. He joined the Palisade Volunteer Fire Department in September 1957, earned his Emergency Medical Technician certification in 1976, and retired from the department after only 43 years of service. He served as a Trustee on the Palisade Town Council from 1967 to 1974 and was a Mesa County Deputy Coroner from 1986 to 1996. Gardner was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mabelle Clymer; father and mother-in-law, Duane and Ruth Hoffman; his wife, Fran; his brothers, Dudley (Glenora) Clymer, Windfield (Jean) Clymer and Duane (Eleanor) Clymer; his sisters, Corrine Perley, Jane Dee Blanton, Blythe (Bill) Hicks, and his son-in-law, Robert Young. He was a kind and loving father, a friend to many, and worked hard to be a good and charitable man and supporter of his community. He will be missed. We commend you into the arms of our loving God. Cremation has taken place and per his request, a private family service will be held.
