James Thomas Logue December 17, 1930 – October 1, 2012 James Thomas Logue, of Grand Junction died October 1, 2012. James Thomas "Tom" Logue was born December 17th, 1930, in Palisade, Colorado to Alfred and Elizabeth Logue. While still an infant his family moved back to Springfield, Illinois where he spent his childhood. Tom was preceded in death by his father when he was age three and his mother at age 11. After their death he lived with various relatives in Springfield and Gillespie, Illinois, Texas and California and at the age of 16, journeyed to Grand Junction, Colorado. After moving to Grand Junction, Tom met and later married Vivian Jean Whittingslow on October 29th, 1949. He is survived by Vivian, his loving wife of almost 63 years; three sons, Thomas (Cindy), James (Barb), and Robert of Grand Junction, and two daughters, Deborah (Harry) Jasper of Vail and Elizabeth (Dave) Buehler of Grand Junction and also 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. In 1947, Tom was employed by the Power Oil Company and worked there until that company went out of business in 1955. At that time, Tom joined the Grand Junction Police Department. He was promoted to sergeant in 1962, and lieutenant in 1965. He retired from the police department in 1975. In June 1976, he was employed as branch manager for Wells Fargo Armored Service in Grand Junction. He held this position for ten years and later worked part-time until his retirement in 1994. During his younger years Tom was involved in auto racing, driving midget racers and stock cars locally at the Grand Speedway and other tracks around Colorado and Utah. When Tom joined the police department, auto racing was not permitted by off duty officers so he became the flagman/starter at the old Grand Speedway. Tom was an avid bowler. He competed in leagues and numerous tournaments around the country until he suffered a broken arm while bowling. Tom was also a computer buff and couldn't imagine life without one. He never missed watch auto racing on TV, especially midget and sprint cars and of course NASCAR. Code: "10-42" Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on October 6, 2012 at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, 2515 Patterson Road, Grand Junction, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that a memorial contribution be made to Roice-Hurst Humane Society, 362 28 Road, Grand Junction or, Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 3090 N. 12th St., Unit B, Grand Junction, CO.
