Maxine Cloyd Obituary

Maxine Cloyd July 10, 1929 - March 15, 2010 Maxine Cloyd, 80, passed away peacefully at Mantey Heights Care Center on March 15th, surrounded by loved ones. She was born Margaret Maxine Sutton on July 10, 1929 in Plains, Kansas to James and Ruth Cook Sutton, the seventh of eight siblings. She moved with her family to Western Colorado in the mid 1930's, originally settling in Delta, and lived in a tent in an orchard for the first winter. They later moved to Grand Junction, where she grew up and attended schools. While in her early twenties, she met the love of her life, Ron Cloyd. Maxine and Ron were married on August 2, 1951 at Grand Junction, and had celebrated 44 years of marriage when her husband passed away in 1996. She and her husband operated a successful business in the Grand Valley for 25 years, Cloyd Septic Service. They sold the business in 1994 and retired to a life of fishing and travel. Maxine was an excellent seamstress, and sewed not only for relaxation, but also hand crafted all of her son's school clothes throughout their formative years. She was an avid bowler, an excellent cook, and mentored in the adult literacy program for several years after retirement. She was a loving person and always served as an excellent example of what an ideal wife and mother should be. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Dixie, and Randy and Maria living in Grand Junction, and Rod and Shermaine living in Littleton; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also surviving are three brothers, Slim, Marvin, and Larry. Memorial services will be held at The First Congregational United Church Of Christ, 1425 N. 5th Street, at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 26th.

Sorry to hear of Maxine's passing. I still remember sitting at her table playing cards and walking through her wonderful vegetable garden. Our thoughts go out to the "boys" and their families.
