Michael John English July 24, 1931 – July 5, 2013 Michael English, 81, a resident of Montrose for 67 years, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at Montrose Memorial Hospital after a long and courageous battle with lymphoma. Michael was born on July 24, 1931, to John and Annie English in Ordway, Colorado. The family moved to Montrose where he and his father were in the farming/ranching business until he was called to serve in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany where he met the love of his life, Heidy. They were married in Heidy's home town on December 4, 1954. Following his discharge from the Army at the rank of Corporal in March 1955, they made their home in Montrose where he worked in the farming/ranching business until his retirement in 2005. They returned to Germany in 2004 to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows in the same church they were married in, surrounded by their children and relatives. Michael and Heidy had two very special children, Todd and Mishell. The loss of their son, Todd, five years ago, left a tremendous void in their lives. Michael will be remembered most as a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and son, a loyal friend, and as a kind, gentle, soft-spoken man. He was exceedingly generous with his family. Very few people knew that almost every summer, he invited nephews and nieces to live on the farm to learn about and enjoy country living. His favorite times were getting together for family gatherings to share a meal and spend the day playing cards. In retirement, he enjoyed daily coffee club with friends. But most of all, he loved spending time with his beloved wife, Heidy. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, traveling, and playing cards. He had a special way with animals that showed anytime he was around them. Michael was a long time member of the Montrose Elks Lodge No.1053, B.P.O.E., served on the Montrose Potato Growers Association board of directors, and was an usher at his church. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Florence and Margie, and his son, Todd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on July 12, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Montrose, Colorado. Internment will follow the Mass in Cedar Cemetery with arrangements made by Crippin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, his family has asked that contributions be made in the name of Michael English to either the San Juan Cancer Center (The Caring Friends Fund c/o San Juan Healthcare Foundation 800 S. 3rd Street Montrose, CO 81401) or Bosom Buddies (P.O.
