Nancy Witt Obituary

Nancy C. Witt August 22, 1936 – June 18, 2010 God called Nancy home on the morning of June 18th after a courageous battle with cancer. Nancy was born to John C. and Kathryn C. Harper, August 22nd 1936 in Colorado Springs, CO. She was raised in Grand Junction helping her parents with the family business, Harpers Dairy. She attended Lincoln Park Elementary, Grand Junction Junior High, and graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1954. Nancy attended Colorado State University, where she met her husband of 53 years Robert Witt. Nancy was an exceptional artist. Her art was heavily influenced by the natural beauty she found in the surrounding community from the Grand Mesa to the Grand Canyon. She enjoyed water colors, pastels, oil painting, china painting, as well as floral designing for family and friends. As a seamstress she designed and created wedding dresses for her daughters and granddaughters, prom dresses, costumes, and other special dresses for her family and community. Nancy enjoyed her careers as a teacher's aide at Broadway Elementary, a medical office assistant, and a floral designer. As a member of First Baptist Church, Nancy served as one of the moderators, sang in the Chancel Choir, played the bells, and helped start the Upward Bound Sunday school class. Her passion in life was her role as mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Robert and Nancy have three children; two daughters, Kathryn Painter (Greg), Laura White (Jim), and son, Bob Witt (Yvonne). They have eight grandchildren, Chris McDaniel (Sarah), Katy Ranzoni (Steven), Brooke Painter, Craig, Becky, and Nikki White, Connor and Erin Witt. They have two great grandchildren, Elly and Sophia Ranzoni. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Kathryn Harper and her brother, John H. Harper. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday June 27th, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Grand Junction. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado or First Baptist Church of Grand Junction.

I am so sorry to hear of Nancy's passing. We had many good times as young girls in Hi school and were known as the two Nancys so she has a special spot in my heart. May God be with this fine family. Nancy Yarnell Brewer, (Farmington, N.M.)

Nancy was a childhood friend. We walked to Lincoln school each day-played with our Storeybook dolls and enjoyed her "play house behind the dairy. She brought my school work home to me each day when I and my sisters were quarentined for 3 months with Scarlet Fever. We competed to see who read the newest Nancy Drew books. She is a big part of my childhood memories. Anna Ruth Gross Roberts

Nancy was one of the girls I admired from the back seats. I never knew her well but she always had a smile and a "HI" for me. I saw her last at our 50th in 2004. May God be with her and her family

To the Witt family,
You are in our thoughts and prayers. Nancy helped with alterations to our daughters wedding dress five years ago and was so caring toward our terminally ill niece who wanted to see the fitting and allowed us to carry her in to watch all the excitement. Nancy's charm and grace were a gift to all who came in contact with her. She will be greatly missed.

I was at OMJHS when Robert was a Councilor there. It is at times like this that I am grateful for the teachings and to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Dear Bob and Family,

Your Nancy was a jewel. She helped me so much with encouragement early in my years at Grand Junction. God bless you in your time of loss. Love, Dorothy Smith
