Janice V. Koppenhafer passed away at her home in Palisade CO on February 7, 2014.
Janice was born to Jesse and Hazel Maresh on April 7, 1924, in Kimball, South Dakota.
She met John R. Koppenhafer Sr. in San Diego, CA during World War II and they married in New London, Connecticut on May 23,1944. Mom worked in the defense industry and was "Our Rosie the Riveter". They had four children: John R. Koppenhafer Jr. (Janet), Dennis A. Koppenhafer (Becky), Sandra M. Grieve, and Shelley K. Martin (Bill).
Mom and Dad lived in Silverton, CO; Atlanta, GA; Denver, CO; Fruita, CO, and Palisade, CO. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Family was the most important thing in her life. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, traveling and going to Black Hawk with the girls.
Mom suffered a major stroke in October, 2005 and fought hard to overcome deficits. She suffered a second stroke Thanksgiving, 2013 and fought courageously to overcome but it was not to be. Mom is with Dad now for eternity.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; mother and father, Hazel and Jesse Maresh; sister, Eldora Stucke; three brothers, Oliver Maresh, Duane Maresh, and Donald Maresh; daughter-in-law, Robin Koppenhafer; son-in-law, Ronald Heald, and son-in-law, Stephen Grieve.
There will be a memorial service at Callahan-Edfast on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with a dinner to follow at 460 W. 6th, Palisade, CO 81526.
