Joan Wieker
December 2, 1928 - March 10, 2014

Joan "Joanie" Wieker passed away peacefully at her home in Grand Junction, CO, on Monday, March 10, 2014, at the age of 85.
Born December 2, 1928 in Pocahontas, Iowa, she was the oldest child of eight, the daughter of Arthur and Bernice (Scanlan) McCartan.
Joan graduated from Havelock High School in 1946. She went on to get her Beauticians' License and opened her own shop in Pocahontas, Iowa. She married Gearld "Jerry" Wieker on April 18, 1949, in Pocahontas, Iowa. Jerry was farming at the time and the crops hadn't been good so in 1955 they packed up their three kids and moved to the Grand Junction area. Over the course of the next 11 years they had five more children. The youngest child was four years old, the oldest 14 years old.
Joan and Jerry built "The Corral" on Fifth and Colorado Avenue. Joan operated the business for the most part, while Jerry was building homes and farming 103 acres.
Joanie will be remembered for her awesome chili she served at "The Corral". She had a loving and generous heart, she was always giving to others, and had a kind and gentle soul. Joan enjoyed her family, grandchildren , great-grandchildren, along with cooking, baking, and gardening. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her loving family, sons, Larry (Sandy) Wieker; Terry (Kathy) Wieker, and Ricky (Debbie) Wieker; daughters, Connie Carpendale (Rick), Carolyn (Neal) Hays, Bonnie (Jim) Daleiden, and Becky (Jim) Thompson, all of Grand Junction; Sherry (Steve) Padon of Brighton, CO; three brothers, and three sisters; 19 grandkids; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; brother, Don; son-in-law, Bill Carpendale, and three great-grandsons, Tavis Braeden Hays, Gannon Patrick Hays, and Daryn Wayne Pritchett.
The Rosary will be recited on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. A memorial Mass will be celebrated by Reverend Edmundo Valera on Friday, March 21, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A private inurnment will be at Immaculate of Mary Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado at 3090B North 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
