Clyde Martinez October 8, 1956 – September 19, 2010 Late Sunday morning at 11:25 a.m., our brother, father, grandfather, uncle and husband Clyde, age 53, was called back home after a short battle with cancer. He entered Heaven from the Pavilion Hospice Care Center after hearing the trumpets call him to the Lord. Clyde was surrounded by family and his wife, Marion, who never left his side. Clyde was born October 8, 1956 in Ortiz, CO to Joe B. and Mercy Martinez. Growing up in a big family, Clyde was always closest to his big brother, Danny. They were partners in crime and mischief. Clyde graduated from Centauri High School in La Jara, CO in 1975. Growing up in the San Luis Valley, CO he found his soulmate, Marion Vigil and on January 29, 1977 they dedicated themselves in the holy bonds of matrimony. The newlyweds lived in Farmington, NM and LaJara CO before making Grand Junction their home of 23 years. Clyde was employed at St. Mary's Hospital for the past 20 years. He liked his job but loved his family most. His grandkids would light up his day when they walked in the door, and drove him crazy when they slammed the door. Clyde was loved dearly for his sense of humor. He always had a way of bringing out the sun on a cloudy day and putting a smile on his wife's face. Clyde loved fishing, camping and the out doors. He and Marion were never shy to start off a dance by being the first ones on the dance floor. The "life of the party", Clyde always had a joke to tell. Everyone he met, he touched their lives in one way or another, whether it be a warm smile or a left hook. "Siempre Como los hombres" was his saying he will be remembered for. Clyde is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marion Martinez; two daughters, Michelle (Joseph) Aguelar and Melody Martinez, son, Dean Martinez all of Grand Junction; seven grandchildren also of Grand Junction; four brothers, Danny (Velma) of Farmington, NM; Leon, Raymond (Josephine), and Dwayne (Valerie) Martinez, all of LaJara, CO; sisters, Renee (Curtis) Little, Judy (John) Jaurigui of Grand Junction; Johanna (Jesse) Barella of Alamosa, CO; mother, Mercy Martinez of LaJara, CO; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Amongst those awaiting Clyde at the pearly gates are his father, Joe B. Martinez; brother, Tommy Martinez; grandson, Jacob Martinez; grandparents, Felipe and Ramona Vigil; Goddaughter, Angelita Martinez; niece, Justine Little and uncle, Baldino Martinez. A public viewing will be from 6 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. A Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. A Mass will be held on Thursday, September 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will follow.
