Amy Schutter Obituary

Amy Diane Schutter October 23, 1972 – February 23, 2011 Amy Diane Schutter, age 38, of Alma, Kansas, formerly of Grand Junction, Colorado, one of God's exceptional women, went to spend eternity in the glory of her Lord on February 23, 2011. Her passing took place at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri after a valiant struggle against a flu virus that attacked her heart and body. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by close family and a dedicated staff at St. Luke's. Amy was born on October 23, 1972 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado minutes after her twin brother, Aaron. They formed a unique and lasting relationship. Amy attended schools in Carbondale, CO and Thermopolis, WY before her family moved to the Grand Junction area. She graduated from Fruita Monument High School in 1991. Amy was an exceptional student athlete in high school. She played volleyball, basketball and tennis and was part of state championship teams in basketball and tennis. Amy continued to play the sport she loved most at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, CO. Basketball had opened so many doors for her. She was able to play for the Athletes In Action in Bolivia and Ecuador two times where she also missioned for the Lord. Amy graduated from Mesa State College in 1996. She taught one year in Spearman, Texas before deciding to return to college at Kansas State University and start her master's degree. She served as a K-State women's basketball graduate assistant for one year. This is when she knew she was called to high school sports. She loved high school kids and had learned so many life lessons herself as a high school athlete. She received her Master's Degree in Educational Administration in 2000. It was during this time that she met a very special man who would become her husband and the father to their children. Amy and Paul Schutter were married June 3, 2000. They made their home in Alma, living and working in a community she loved. Amy was a special education teacher in Wamego, and then taught English in Alma. She was the coach for the Wabaunsee High School Charger's volleyball team. Paul and Amy had four children, Jakob, Lauren, Ryan, and Sam. Above all, Amy loved the Lord, and followed Him closely. Her highest calling was to be the best Christian mother and wife she could be. She attended Westview Community Church in Manhattan, Kansas and was very active in its women's ministries. Amy and Paul, along with their family, loved to camp. She loved family get togethers and looked forward to her trips home to Colorado. She was the MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) coordinator at Westview Community Church. She also had a heart for abused children and battered women and, of course, her volleyball girls. Amy is survived by her husband, Paul; her children, Jakob (9), Lauren (7), Ryan (6) and Sam (3). In addition, she is survived by her mother and dad, Donna and Dale Albertson and Dale's extended family; her twin brother, Aaron Largent (Amy) and their children all of De Beque, Colorado; her maternal grandmother, Yvonne Erickson of Parachute, Colorado; her aunt, Diane Askew and family and her Uncle Mike and family. She also leaves behind her extended family in Kansas, her father and mother-in-law, Phil and Louise Schutter of Alma, KS; brother-in-law, Patrick Schutter (Kelli) and their son of Manhattan, KS; sister-in-law, Laura Hill (Eric) of Higginsville, MO; Paul's grandmother, Henrietta Aubert and numerous members of the extended Schutter and Auburt families. She is also survived by her father, Duane Brudigam and her brother and sister, Adam and Allison all of Washington state. Memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Mesa State College in the College Center Ballroom. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Amy Schutter Memorial Fund to be used for a scholarship program, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home, PO Box 232 Wamego, KS 66547. I was priviledged to watch Amy grow up into a beautiful young woman. My niece is Kari Mulford Thomas. She was one of Amy's very close friends all through school. I always received a hug from Amy if we ran into each other at my sister's house or a sports activity. She had such a sweet spirit, and her smile could melt your heart. We were all devastated when we heard of her condition. All of our prayers joined yours. We don't understand why God took her home; but we know He does all things well. We are praying that our Lord covers all the family with a special peace and comfort. Donnie and Lavonne Wynkoop, Missy Wynkoop Schaneman, and Matt Wynkoop.

Paul, Jakob, Lauren, Ryan, and Samual -
Amy has left us all with beautiful memories and her love is still our guide, although we cannot see her, she is always at our side. Words of comfort are so hard to say but, no matter how deeply we hurt we still say thanks for the little things in life. At this time we need to find those little joys. May Amy rest in peace with Our Lord and comfort Paul and the kids.
