Evelyn M. Corey August 21, 1924 – February 7, 2012 Evelyn M. Corey was born on August 21, 1924, in Frontena, Kansas to Emil and Kathrina (Jonas) Lunk. She graduated from Crested Butte High School receiving a science scholarship and was the Valedictorian. This was quite the accomplishment given that when Evelyn started school she had to learn English. Evelyn enjoyed her family and friends, making outside wooden butterflies, gourmet and home-style cooking, she was an accomplished artist, an art teacher both at home and for the Grand Junction Center for the Arts, she taught Girl Scouts, and was known for her Daffy Dumpling Show on KREX in 1970 -1971, her beer bottle wall containing over 1500 beer bottles, and her accomplishment of being artist of the month several times. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Corey; the two were married for 59 years and 362 days; her parents, and one sister, Elsie Brown. She is survived by her brother, Rudy Lunk of Grand Junction, CO; niece, Jackie Lewis of Arkansas; four nephews, Rocky Lunk of Grand Junction, CO; Mike Brown of Colbran, CO; Alan Lunk of Stratton, NE, and Darrin Lunk of Grand Junction; six grand-nephews, six grand-nieces, seven great-grand-nephews, and seven great-grand-nieces. A memorial gathering and potluck will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Elm Avenue Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
