Stanley Bradford November 1, 1921 – October 30, 2012 Stanley Bradford, 91, passed away at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a short illness complicated by pneumonia. He is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth "Bette", and his loving daughter, Kimberly. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Philip and Neil. Stan was born in Gary, Indiana and spent his childhood there. He served in the 416th Bomber Squadron as a Tech Sgt. in a MASH Unit for the Army Air Corps during WWII. While stationed in England he met a beautiful English girl, the love of his life, in 1943, at a dance outside of London. They married in February 1945, and had 67 happy years together. Stan joined the Gary Steelworks before the war and apprenticed as a brick mason, later becoming a Master Mason. He built a brick home for his family, almost single-handedly. He enjoyed reading, watching sports and spending time with his family. He loved dancing and he and Bette joined dance clubs and went regularly. He enjoyed travelling all over the US with his family on yearly camping trips. Later, he and Bette traveled throughout Western Europe. Stan went back to college on the GI Bill and earned a BA in History from Indiana University. After retiring to southern Texas, he tutored elementary children in reading and writing for ten years and was honored to receive a plaque naming him "Tutor of the Year". A graveside military service with be held at 3:00 p.m., November 6, 2012, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the The VAMC, Community Living Center, GPF311, 2121 North Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
