Charles Alexander January 26, 1924 – February 18, 2013 "Charlie" Ray Alexander was born in Afton, TN, to Ray and Pauline Alexander. He grew up in Johnson City, TN. He enlisted in the US Army at age 18, and he served in the European Theater from 1942 - 1945. He was severely injured on the Beaches of Normandy. After rehabilating, he went to college at East Tennessee State. He obtained his Degrees (BA and MA) in Education. He married Mary Evelyn Webb in 1954, in her home town of Fries, VA (FUMC). They moved to Hugo, CO, shortly after. They came to Grand Junction and had three children. Charles taught elementary, fifth and sixth grades during the 1960's and 1970's, for 20 years. He also served as a Vice Principal at Fruita High School for about one year. He retired in 1980, at Appleton Elementary School. Charlie's favorite past times hobbies were: he was an avid reader, tomato gardening, yard work, Elks, Moose Lodge, stories with friends, watching old sitcoms and westerns, football, church activities, Methodist Church functions, and charity work. He also loved the Broncos. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and son, James. He is survived by his daughters, Connie and Amy. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013, from 6 - 8:00 p.m. at Martin Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the mortuary.
