Dottie Lee Smith Obituary
After a long illness Dorothy Lee Smith (Dottie) died in her sleep on May 21, 2014 in Chico, Calif. Dottie was born in San Jose, Calif. to Mae and Henry LaBabera on April 28, 1934, the third of three daughters, she leaves behind her loving sisters Connie Kettmann of Campbell and Lorraine Miller of Brentwood. Dottie is survived by her 3 children and their spouses, Henry Michael (Terri) Vina of Campbell, Calif., Lorraine Marie Stiles (Randy) of St. Francisville, La, and Mark (Liz) Vina of San Jose, Calif. She had 7 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Smith, who had 3 daughters, 8 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Dottie loved her blended family and was dearly loved by all. After Dottie and Walt married they moved to St. Francisville, La., where Dottie was a very successful Realtor. She started her own agency River Road Realty and along with her husband were two of the founders of the St. Francisville New Comers Club. In their later years they retired and moved back to California and settled in Willows, in part due to her lifelong relationship with her first cousin Jim LaBabera and his wife Judy. Dottie and Walter joined the Willows Elks Lodge "1786" in 2004. They were both civic minded and active in Lodge activities. Before her declining years Dottie was very involved in the ladies auxiliary and enjoyed participating in activities and helping those in need. Dottie was one of those people who lit up a room with a spark and personality all her own. She loved animals particularly Chihuahua's, and her two Chihuahuas, Peanut and Punkin remained her constant companions to the end. She will always be remembered for her zest for life and her loving heart.
