Herb L. Bales, "H.L" died on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at his Davis home with his family by his side.
The Guest Book is expired.
He was born on Nov. 25, 1928, in Huron, South Dakota to O.E. And Mina Bales.
From a very young age, Herb was a successful and dedicated business man. After moving to California, he became owner and operator of Northern Truck Inc. and Northern Crane Inc., designing and building his beloved pipe yard in Arbuckle. This area is now NCI Industrial Site. Herb was there every day that he wasn't traveling. He loved to golf at Arbuckle Golf Course, travel, and spend time with family. Special to him and Barb were the days spent with family, celebrating birthdays, riding quads, and teaching the grandkids to drive the old yard pick-up. He always will be remembered as an optimistic, kind, generous, unassuming, brilliant, clever, sweet and undemanding husband, father and grandfather.
Herb is survived by his wife Barbara, four daughters, Diane Hauck of Yuba City, Debbie and Rick Sommer of Bakersfield, Brenda and Mike Mayo of Sacramento, Linda and Brian Bishop of Albany; five grandchildren, Jenny and David Miller, Elizabeth Mayo, Jonathon Mayo, Liam Bishop, Casey Bishop; and one great grandson Benjamin Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and "Cat".
Following a private internment in Merced, there will be a public celebration of life in Arbuckle at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Arbuckle Golf Course in Herb's name.
