Robert Lee "Bob" Hopkins

Bob Hopkins, 86, of Colusa, passed away March 6, 2013. He was born on February 7, 1927, in Watertown, South Dakota.

At the age of 17, Bob talked his father into allowing him to join the army. For the next eight years, Bob served in the Army, the Air Force, and the National Guard. Three of these years were spent in the Philippines just after World War II. Bob shared many war stories over the years with his family and friends.

In 1956, Bob's father died, so he and his siblings moved their mother from South Dakota to Long Beach, California. The move provided college opportunities for Bob and his siblings. He decided to try his hand at photography, which was one of his favorite hobbies during his lifetime.

While employed with Johnson Photography, Bob met his wife of 54 years, Virginia. Shortly after they were married, he decided to attend barber school, and was a barber for the next 15 years. Moving to Dunsmuir, California in 1973, Bob bought his own barber shop, where he worked until 1976. The last years of his employment were spent working for the California Highway Patrol in Mt. Shasta. He retired in 1991.

While living in Dunsmuir, Bob spent lots of time fishing, hiking, and camping with his family. In 2004, Bob and Virginia moved to Colusa.

Bob was a devout Catholic, and very dedicated to attending Mass every Sunday.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; four children, Lucille (Jim) Imhoff of Colusa, Tim Hopkins of Tempe, Arizona, Ted (Connie) Hopkins of Salt Lake City, Utah, Laura (Craig) Howard of Philadelphia, New York; nine grandchildren, Ryne, Talyn, and Coral Imhoff; Krystal, Greg, and Alexia Hopkins; Rachel, Robert, and Joshua Howard; one great grandchild, Ella Howard; brothers, Don Hopkins of Chico, California, Jerry (Jeri) Hopkins of Lakehead, California; sister, Lee (Dave) Carlaw of San Clemente, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at McNary Moore Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 14, from 5:00 to 7:00 with a Rosary at 7:00. Funeral Mass will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on Friday, March 15, at 1:00 with a military graveside service to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's name to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Colusa, California.
