Dennis Robert Groh was born the seventh child of fourteen children to August and Florence (White) Groh Sr. in Mason City. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1960. He worked at McDonalds for twenty years in Mason City and then transferred for the next twenty years to McDonalds in Melbourne, Fla. He returned to Mason City in 1996.
Dennis preferred a simple life and was known as a quiet, gentle, man who had great compassion for others. He was a patient man with a sense of humor. His greatest pleasure was being with his family. He was a do-it-yourself person and taught himself many hobbies that became lifelong passions. He loved finding, repairing and refinishing clocks. He enjoyed watching sprint car racing, bowling, and had a keen interest in model trains. Dennis was a dedicated volunteer at the North Iowa Fair Association for the annual fair. He lovingly tended his flower and vegetable gardens, always anxious for that first tomato. He hunted and fished with his family, was a great Viking fan, chose the Twins first and the Cubs second, and was devoted to his Rat Terrier, Bitzer.
Surviving Dennis are ten brothers and sisters, Verna (Vernon) Gourley, and August Groh of Mason City, Richard (Marty) Groh, Cody, Wyo., Dolores McCaffery, Kansas City, Kan., Karen (Ken) Schaub, Austin, Minn., Linda (Randy) Flaherty, Mason City, Charlene Blodgett, Minneapolis, Minn., Kaylene Groh, Mason City, Debbie Gridley, North St. Paul, Minn., and Becky Groh, Mason City; 24 nieces and nephews, many grand nieces and nephews, and a few great-grand nieces and nephews.
His parents, two sisters, Arla Loeffler, and Gilda Sinn, and one brother, Gene Groh, preceded him in death.

When I was growing up, uncle Dennis took me everywhere with him, I was 5 and he was 23. Some of my fondest memories with him is when we went to the stock car races, I attended many of his bowling tournaments, and him picking me up from school when my mom told me to walk home. He was such a kid at heart, and time spent with him was a fun filled day! I was the luckiest kid in the world to be loved by such a wonderful man. Karen Sinn Fritzler, Colorado

To My Sisters,
He will always be in our hearts as we live, love and wait for healing. He was our big brother, we played flag football, bad mitton and eenie, inie, over in the back yard. He was always ready to go on an adventure and growing up with him was a wonderful experience. He is mourned with much love and will never be forgotten. Love, Linda

When I was growing up, Uncle Dennis lived in Florida, so whenever I'd see him it was someone's vacation. My strongest memories of him are thus associated with Walt Disney World, beautiful Florida weather, and camping and fishing, and good times. He was a talented wood worker; a man who could fix things; a good cook; a baseball fan. He was always very kind to me, and I was very fond of him. It seems so strange to speak of him in the past tense. I'll miss him very much and I'm grateful that my memories are such good ones.

Dennis and I grew up together on 3rd street in the 1950's and he was such a great guy to have as a friend. We lived 3 houses apart and he was always happy, funny, fun and kind. He would fix my bike or anything else I needed help with and was very protective of me even though he was a year younger.
The Groh family was good to all three of us, Raleigh, Wendy and myself. Our mother Lola and your parents were good friends.
My heart goes out to each of you in the family. He loved you dearly.
He will spend Easter this year with Jesus. Way to young to leave us for sure. Prayers and Sympathy.
