Bobby Dean Giles
Chatham - Bobby Dean Giles passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on December 28th, 2012. He was born in Pittsylvania County on March 16, 1933 to the late Jerrie and Minnie Giles. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Styers Giles; four children, Debra Giles of Portland, OR; Karen Goode of Charlotte, NC; Greg Giles and wife, Theresa, of Lincolnton, NC; Lisa Nobles and husband, Jeff of Belmont, NC; eight grand- children, Barbara Nasewytewa and husband, Corey, Crystal Carter and husband, Ezra, Sarah Murtha and fianc‚, Jeff Deese, Lola Kristen Giles, Nicholas Nobles and wife Sarah, Bobby Giles II, Matthew Nobles, Dana Nobles, Falicia Beaver; two great-grandchildren, Camden and Bliss Nobles. Bob is preceded in death by his four sisters, Verna, Helen, Hazel, Annie and four brothers, Leland, Maynard "Jim", Billy and Ray. Bob was a United States Marine Corporal who served in the
Korean Conflict from 1951-1953, receiving a
Purple Heart and Silver Star. Upon his return, he married Joan. They lived in Danville and Newport News before settling in Charlotte, NC where he was employed by Thermo Industries, Inc. After 27 years, he retired in 1991 and returned to his hometown of Chatham, VA. Funeral services will be conducted at the Scott Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with Dr. Henry M. Meadows, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Burial Park, in Chatham, VA. The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Sunday, December 30, 2012 from 7:00 PM till 8:30 PM and at other times will be at the residence.
