Betty Ward Barrett

REIDSVILLE-Betty Ward Barrett, 73, of 714 Parkway Blvd, passed on to Glory, Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Annie Penn Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on July 1, 2012 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matt Hooper, Jeff Mackey, Dave Case, Kevin Brunk, Jesse Clifton, Jacob Dickerson and Chris Reyes. Mrs. Barrett was born in Rockingham County on November 16, 1938 to Edith Lawrence Ward and the late Jesse Christopher Ward. Betty's grandmother, Annie Arrender Ward helped raise all of her grandchildren but while she help raise Betty the two had a special bond. She was of the Baptist faith. Betty was a wonderful, loving mother and a very kind hearted person that loved her country and Jesus. Among her other interest she enjoyed reading, shopping and living life to the fullest. Along with her father she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Wesley Barrett; daughters, Joanne Clifton, Lauren Clifton, and Vanessa Clifton Brunk; granddaughter, Ruby Clifton and sister, Pansy Middleton. Betty is survived by her daughter, Bonnie L. Moreno-Alvarez; son, Wayne "Buddy" Clifton, Jr. both of Reidsville; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; mother, Edith L. Ward; sister, Avra Waller; and her beloved dog, Angel. The family received friends Saturday, June 30, 2012 from 7-9 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
