Velma Dawson Obituary

Velma Trent Dawson GRETNA - Velma Trent Dawson, age 100, of Gretna, died Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Gretna Health Care. Born December 15, 1907 in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence E. Trent and Mary Lee Arthur Trent. She was predeceased by her husband, George W. Dawson; two sons-in-law, Harold Hamlett, and Robert Tolson; four brothers, Hopson Trent, Bernard Trent, Eugene Trent, and Milton Trent; and three sisters, Everleen King, Erma Hutcherson, and Marga-ret Bruce. Mrs. Dawson was the oldest member of Anderson Memorial United Methodist Church; a member of the United Methodist Women, a former member of the Gretna Demonstration Club and was a home maker. She enjoyed sewing, canning, and quilting with the church ladies. She is survived by two sons, Braxton Dawson and wife, Norma of Fredericksburg, and Cla-rence Dawson and wife, Gloria of Hurt; two daughters, Dolly Tolson of Fairfax, and Charlotte Hamlett of Gretna; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Trent of Hurt; seven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2008 at Anderson Memorial United Methodist Church by Rev. John Snyder. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her daughter, Charlotte Hamlett, 306 West Watts Street, Gretna, VA. The family suggests memorials be made to Anderson Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 207 Gretna, VA 24557. Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna is in charge of arrangements.
