Austin Gibson Obituary
Mr. Austin Gibson, age 74, of 10365 Anderson Mill Rd. Chatham, VA, died Thursday, August 6, 2009 at his residence after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born on April 3, 1935, in Pittsylvania County. He was the son of the late General Gibson and the late Coneva Gibson. Mr. Gibson was employed for forty-seven years by Calgolf, Inc. building golf courses.
In addition to his wife Doris, he is survived by three daughters, Lori Wells and her husband Harvey of Chatham, Glori Keen and her husband Oadie Keen, Jr. of Blairs and Austina Hoffman and her husband Dave of Chatham; two sisters, Daisy Adkins and Evelena Ratcliffe of Martinsville; five grandchildren, Stephanie Wells and her fianc? John Bowling and Adrienne Wells of Chatham, Shayna Keen and Trey Keen of Blairs and Auvin Witt of Chatham, and was expecting one great-grandchild, Kelsey Bowling.
He was preceded in Death by two brothers, Oakley and Rollie Junior Gibson and one sister, Leona Gibson.
Funeral services will be conducted at Scott Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating. Burial will be at the Gibson Family Cemetery in Chatham. The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Friday, August 7, 2009 from 7:00 PM till 8:00 PM and at other times will be at the residence.

Im sorry I never really got to meet Mr. Gibson but I was friends with his granddaughter Stephanie Wells and she always spoke highly of him and she loved him very much. My condolences to the family in their time of need.
