Clarence Victor Bowling

Clarence Victor Bowling, 85, of 2886 Westover Drive, Danville, VA, died Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for three months and patient in the hospital for the past ten days. Mr. Bowling was born in Pikeville, Kentucky on January 25, 1927, a son of the late Lon Bowling and the late Lesta Yeatts Bowling. He had been a resident of Danville, VA since 1948. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in 1996 and had worked at Dan River Mills, Inc. for 25 years prior to working at Goodyear.

Mr. Bowling was a member of Welcome Baptist Church and loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed helping others and he was a man who never met a stranger.

He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in Germany. On August 20, 1959 he married Doris Turman Bowling, who survives. In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by a daughter, Sandy S. Check, and husband Connie, of Powder Springs, GA; a step daughter, Gayle Thompson, and husband Leonard, of Greensboro, NC; four brothers, Charlie Bowling, and wife Merle, of Blairs, VA, Earl Bowling, and wife Everlena, of Danville, VA, Milton Bowling, and wife Bonnie, of Danville, VA and Cecil Bowling, of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Lucille B. Bartley, of Huntsville, AL, and Doris B. Taylor, and husband Clinton, of Blairs, VA; five grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, four step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and many loving extended family members. He was predeceased by a daughter, Vicky V. Burton; a step son, Ronald G. Horsley; and three brothers, Elwyon Bowling, Reed Bowling and Grady Bowling. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Reverend Jimmy Hussey officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors by the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 and the U.S. Army.

The family will receive friends Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the funeral home from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and at other times at the residence.
