Hazel Irene Ramsey Franklin

Hazel Irene Ramsey Franklin of 1560 Woodcrest Heights, Danville, VA, died on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Franklin was born in Martinsville, VA a daughter of the late Elbert G. Ramsey and the late Grace Morris Ramsey. She spent her early years in Bassett, VA and was a resident of Danville, VA since 1967 where she was a homemaker. She belonged to First Baptist Church. Hazel was a wonderfully unique, gentle soul who marched through life to the beat of her own drum. She loved the Lord with all her heart. She spared no expense in the love of her family- but her brightest stars were her grandchildren, Stetson and Sierra. Among her many interests and talents- an avid reader, a lover of beautiful pins, a collector of many pocketbooks, a gardener with a green thumb, and an excellent seamstress.

Hazel loved children. For several years she was a beloved door greeter at North Elementary School, where she gave out countless hugs to waiting children. She was especially proud of her perfect attendance trophies.

She could do anything she set her mind to. She was an eternal optimist, and she loved life, living each day to its' fullest. She never encountered a stranger, leaving a lasting impression with those she met.

She was the glue that held us together. The thought of being without her is unbearable.

Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. On January 15, 1952 she married Teddy Ray Franklin who survives of the residence.

In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters, Sarah D. Franklin and Kathy F. Wilson and her husband Pete all of Danville, VA; three sisters, Mona R. Hall of Bassett, VA, Nancy R. Ferguson and husband Carl of Martinsville, VA and Barbara R. Koger and husband James of Collinsville, VA; and two grandchildren, Stetson D. Franklin and Sierra D. Franklin both of Danville, VA.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Reverend John Carroll officiating. Interment will follow the service in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Martinsville, VA with the Reverend Doby Salmons officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the church and at other times the family will be at the residence of her daughter Sarah D. Franklin, at 121 Beaumont Drive, Danville, VA 24541. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is respectfully serving the Franklin family.
