Calvin Richard Coldren, age 86, of Edwardsville, Illinois, died at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at Relais Bonne Eau Hospice in Edwardsville.
He was born August 20, 1927, in Walnut Grove, Missouri the son of the late Richard H. & Mabel (Richard) Coldren. Calvin worked as a General Supervisor of Signals for Union Pacific Railroad for 38 years before retiring. He married Mary Frances Bradley on August 29, 1952, in Strafford, Missouri.
Besides his wife, Calvin is survived by two daughters, Tamra Coldren & husband Jack Spudich of Edwardsville and Cathy Weiss & husband Brent of Edwardsville; five grandchildren, Evan Ray of Corpus Christi, Texas, Abigail Spudich, Shelby Ray-Weiss, Bradley Spudich, and Lily Weiss all of Edwardsville.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman, Eldon D. & Marlin Coldren and by one sister, Dorothy Sessler.
Calvin was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Edwardsville where he had served on the Board of Trustees. He served in the U.S. Navy
during WW II; was a member of the American Legion Post 199 in Edwardsville, Masonic Lodge Council Grove 36, and the Missouri Pacific Officers Association. He was also a past member of American Railroads.
According to his wishes he will be cremated and then buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. There will be a memorial visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2013, at St. John's United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013, at St. John's United Methodist Church with Rev. Sheryl Palmer officiating.
