Walter Walker, 77, of Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., passed away on Jan. 17, 2014, at St. John Hospital in Detroit, Mich.
He was born June 7, 1936, son of the late Walter "Charlie" and Pearl (nee Enloe) Walker of Edwardsville.
He married Joyce Tweedie on Jan. 9, 1965.
Walter, a graduate of Edwardsville High School, served in the U.S. Marine Corps
and went on to become a Nurse Anesthetist. He worked for most of his career at St. John North East Hospital in Detroit and retired from the Kresge Eye Center a few years ago.
He was a wonderful person with great people skills and a bedside manner appreciated by his patients. Walter enjoyed photography and was a member of the Grosse Pointe Camera Club. He also liked to sky dive and kept an impeccable garden.
Walter was very devout to his faith. He was an Elder at Knox Presbyterian Church and would volunteer for just about anything at the church. He loved the outdoors where he could find and collect arrowheads. His collection of arrowheads was donated and is on display at Metro Beach's Nature Center. He coached soccer for the Grosse Point Soccer Association.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joyce, his daughter Amy Sage (Bob) and son Paul (Beth), grandchildren Daniel, Jonathan, David, Abigail and Emily.
He leaves behind his siblings Charlene Kelly, Peggy Walker, Nadine Hamlet, John Walker and Jim Walker.
Visitation and funeral services were held Jan. 21 at the Knox Presbyterian Church, 257000 Crocker Road, Harrison Township, Mich.
The Rev. Dr. Douglas Graham officiated.
Walter was interred at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, Township, Mich.
