William Martin

William L. "Bill" Martin, Sr., age 90, of Chesterfield, Missouri formerly Edwardsville, died at 3:15 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri.
Bill was a retired engineer for McDonnell-Douglas Corporation in St. Louis.
He was born March 17, 1923, in Edwardsville, the son of the late William Gottlieb & Annis (Kendall) Martin.
He married Cleona Mae Lutes on May 7, 1949, in Edwardsville. She preceded him in death on July 30, 2003.
Bill is survived by three daughters, Pamela Martin Butler & husband Larry Kent Butler of Jasper, Georgia, Joanne Descher & husband Jim of Wildwood, Missouri, and Jane Martin of Wildwood, Missouri; six grandchildren, Alexandra, Conor, Stephen & Cole Doherty, and Grant & Chloe Descher. He was preceded in death by one son, William L. Martin, Jr. and one sister, Beverly Ingels.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved model planes, jazz music, and his cat Zach. Bill was a veteran of the US Coast Guard, serving during World War II.
Private funeral services were held Monday, November 25, 2013, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home.
Interment was held at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be given to the Humane Society of Missouri.
