Carl E. Rinkel, age 82, of Glen Carbon, Illinois died at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. Carl was a retired self-employed farmer. He was born March 29, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of the late Clarence & Elsie (Brewe) Rinkel. He married Betty Jean Marshaw in Dow, Illinois on April 8, 1956. She preceded him in death on April 22, 2007.

Carl is survived by 1 son, Kenneth Rinkel & wife Diane of Glen Carbon; 2 grandchildren, Brian A. Rinkel & Eric A. Rinkel both of Glen Carbon; 1 brother, Robert Rinkel & wife Georgia of Maryville; 1 sister, Doris Danna & husband Joe of Glen Carbon; several nieces, nephews, & great nieces and a special friend, Sarah Bouse.
He was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Debra Kay Rinkel.
He was a member of Eden United Church of Christ, the Eden Brotherhood, and the Eden Church Board. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was also a member of the Triad District #2 School Board, the Glen Carbon Senior Citizens, and the Troy-Glen Carbon senior citizens bowling league, and enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Highland Squares, and enjoyed traveling.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2013 at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Eden United Church of Christ with Rev. John Roberts officiating. Cremation will follow services according to the family's wishes.
