Dorothy Schlemer, age 91, of Edwardsville, died at 7:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
She was born July 10, 1922, in Edwardsville, the daughter of the late Carl and Emma Gutberlet Wehmer.
She married Lee Schlemer on Jan. 19, 1961, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son: Gerald Schlemer of Edwardsville.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son: Daniel, who died at birth; a sister; Rose Ostendorf and a brother-in-law: Anthony "Tony" Ostendorf.
She was a member of the Edwardsville High School Class of 1940. She attended beauty school and worked for Emerson Electric in St. Louis in the gun turret division during World War II. After the war, she attended airline school in Kansas City and was hired by Mid-Continent (Braniff) Airlines as a ticket agent, working in Omaha, Kansas City and St. Louis. She was a member of the University of Illinois Home Extension Program and served one term as county secretary.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edwardsville.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the church with Fr. Daniel Bergbower officiating.
Interment will be in Buck Road Cemetery in maryville.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary's Building Fund or the
Saksa Mateer Funeral Home in Edwardsville is in charge of arrangements.
