Elsie R. Henson, age 75 of Pocahontas, IL, died Sunday, May 05, 2013, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, IL. She was born on Friday, April 08, 1938, in Herrin, IL, the daughter of Charles R. and Naomi L. (nee Lee) Slayton.
On Saturday, January 16, 1954, she married Eugene A. Henson who survives.?
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Pocahontas, IL; former member First Baptist Church-Maryville, IL; former member First Baptist Church-Tilden, IL.?
She grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, in the Soulard area. After her marriage, she and her husband lived in St. Louis and later moved to Belleville, Illinois where she reared her family. Later they lived in Marissa, IL; Edwardsville, IL; Hamel, IL; Troy, IL and moved to Pocahontas, IL, 14 years ago. She was a "hugger"; very active with her faith; family was always first; loved her dogs "Buddy" and "Spot". She enjoyed stuffed animals & toys that played music, bowling and playing cards (she was good at all card games). She battled rheumatoid arthritis for 40 years and was a breast cancer survivor for 15 years.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene A. Henson, Pocahontas, IL; three daughters: Cheryl Jean (Wayne) Mollankamp, Columbia, IL, Brenda Kay (Marcellus) Tebbe, Edwardsville, IL, and Christina Louise (Tommie) May, Sparta, IL; two sons, Eugene Autrey "Mike" (Brenda) Henson, Bagdad, KY, and Barry D. (Tammy) Henson, Pocahontas, IL; and a sister, Patty Slayton, Paducah, KY.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles R. Slayton, and her mother, Naomi L. Slayton Newberry, and four brothers.?
Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 08, 2013, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Memorial service will be at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 08, 2013, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, with Dr. Craig Ballard, Pastor, First Baptist Church, Pocahontas, IL, officiating.??
