Rex L. Rendleman, age 80 of Edwardsville, IL, died Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL.
He was born on Wednesday, November 01, 1933, in Carbondale, IL, the son of John Herman and Catherine Alice (nee Nolte) Rendleman.
On Thursday, September 18, 1980, he married Virginia A. Rendleman (nee Gieseking) who survives .
He was a member of Helvetia Sharpshooters Society, (Treasurer for many years) Highland, IL; former member of the Elk's Club, Carbondale, IL.
Rex was born and reared at Carbondale, IL, and a 1951 graduate of Carbondale Community High School. He attended SIU and then was drafted into the US Army, served for 13 month in Operation "Smoky" in Nevada. After serving with the US Army, he drove a tour bus, owned and operated a Dog-n-Suds at Carmi, IL, in late 60's and early 70's; he later began working for the State of Illinois-Department of Agriculture as a meat inspector and retired in the mid 1980's. He worked at the Lindendale Park Ballroom as a bartender for 37 years and ran the kitchen at the Highland Speedway for 17 years. He loved his grandchildren, fishing, hunting, camping, mowing grass and was a "sports nut" who followed the St. Louis Cardinal Baseball team.
Survivors include his wife: Virginia A. Rendleman, Edwardsville; a daughter: Deborah L. Turner, Mount Vernon, IN; two sons: David B. (Amy) Rendleman, Dardenne Prairie, MO and Timothy C. (Susan) Rendleman, Glen Carbon; a step-son: Robert L. (Patty) Middleton, Jr., New Douglas; a step-daughter: Valerie A. (Mark) Oller, Marine; 14 grandchildren/step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren/step-great-grandchildren and two brothers: Reeve Rendleman, Arnold, MO and Russell (Melba) Rendleman, Trenton.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John Herman Rendleman and Catherine Alice Rendleman and one brother: Raymond N. Rendleman, who passed away in 2009.
Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marine, Illinois.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 03, 2013, and from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, on Wednesday, December 04, 2013, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marine, IL.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 04, 2013, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marine, IL, with Rev. Philip H. Kershner, Pastor, United Church of Christ of Marine, Marine, IL officiating.
Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, St. Louis, MO.
